2022 Hospitality Scholarships Awarded to 11 Students.

The Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation hosted its annual scholarship luncheon at the White Bear Country Inn on May 19. In all, 14 scholarships were awarded to students enrolled in hospitality, tourism and culinary programs at post-secondary institutions, totaling nearly $27,000.

This year’s scholarship recipients include:

Hospitality scholarships are funded through the generosity of corporate and individuals donors. We are proud and grateful to be able to award the following scholarships for 2022:

Alan W. Bell Honorary Scholarship
This scholarship is presented in honor of Alan Bell, former general manager of Lord Fletcher’s Restaurant in Minnetonka, by Bill Naegele of Restaurants No Limit, Inc.

Carlson Family Foundation Scholarship
The Carlson Family Foundation has a strong tradition of giving rooted in the philosophy of its founder, Curtis L. Carlson. Curtis and Arleen Carlson fostered a sense of community and a spirit of giving in their family, establishing a legacy of philanthropy. “Whomever you serve, serve with caring.” The organization is an HMEF Leaders Fund Gold Sponsor.

As a ProStart student, Jordan Lenz received a Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation Scholarship, making it possible for him to attend culinary school without taking out any student loans to help pay for his college education. Jordan and his wife decided that they would like to “Pay It Forward” to support another upcoming ProStart student pursuing a career in the culinary field. Jordan is currently working at a Minnesota restaurant and is passionate about helping other culinary students by dedicating his time serving as a ProStart Mentor for his former high school, Sauk Rapids-Rice. Jordan is a true inspiration to us all.

Grandma’s Restaurant Company Scholarship
Grandma’s Restaurant Company operates nine casual dining concepts, with a history dating to the start of the 20th century, when Rosa Brochi opened her boarding hose to lonely sailors in the Great Lakes Port.

Greater Minneapolis Hotel Association Scholarship
The Greater Minneapolis Hotel Association partners with the Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation to provide financial support towards the development and growth of the Hospitality & Tourism Management Program in Minnesota high schools.

Jimmy’s Kitchen and Bar Scholarship
Jimmy’s specializes in providing an exceptional dining experience along with topnotch service while serving contemporary and traditional American cuisine. Jimmy’s serves market fresh fish and seafood top quality Angus beef steaks, roasted baby back ribs, pastas as well as hand-crafted burgers and sandwiches. At Jimmy’s we serve in your choice of a rich, handsome upscale-casual dining room -or- our casual, come as you are, bar/lounge area.

Patrick Murray Memorial Scholarship 
Since 1946, Murray’s Restaurant in downtown Minneapolis has presented a menu with exceptional choices and its special focus on beef has received the greatest accolades. Murray’s famed “Silver Butter Knife Steak” has become a tradition for locals and made the restaurant a destination for travelers. The scholarship is presented in memory of Pat Murray, the second generation “restaurateur extraordinaire” by the Murray family.

Reuben Palm Memorial Scholarship
Reuben Palm was a longtime president of Palm Brothers Restaurant Equipment & Design and served on the Board of Directors for the Foodservice Equipment Distributors Association and Minnesota Restaurant Association. In 2005, Reuben was inducted into the Hospitality Minnesota Hall of Fame. The Palm Family hopes to continue Reuben’s legacy by helping students entering the hospitality industry with this scholarship in Reuben Palm’s name.

Sysco North Central Region Scholarship
Sysco is a leading marketer and distributor of food and foodservice products. Sysco products and services can be found in approximately 400,000 foodservice establishments throughout North America including restaurants, hotels, schools, healthcare facilities such as hospitals and nursing homes, and theme parks, along with in-store bakeries and delis. Sysco Minnesota is an HMEF Leaders Fund Gold Level Sponsor.

TPI Hospitality Scholarship
TPI Hospitality develops, builds and manages hotels and restaurants throughout greater Minnesota and Florida. Scholarships presented by TPI Hospitality are intended for students enrolled in a hospitality management program with plans to pursue a career in the hotel or restaurant industry.

Toby Tournament Scholarships
The Toby Foundation organized a charity golf tournament in 1985 in honor of Toby Landgraf. The tournament’s proceeds provide scholarship opportunities for hospitality students. The tournament has raised over $500,000 since 1985 and has assisted over 400 hospitality college students from Minnesota.

Two Tuesday Dinner Club (TTDC) Scholarship
The Two Tuesday Dinner Club (TTDC) was founded in November 2001 by Liz Rammer, long before she became CEO of Hospitality Minnesota. The group is comprised of 16 professional women who meet at 7 pm the second Tuesday of every month to dine at a different small neighborhood restaurant. Over the past 21 years, the group has dined at over 200 restaurants in the Twin Cities metro area. Beyond the enjoyment of sharing a meal together, club members have supported one another both personally and professionally. To help celebrate TTDC’s 20th anniversary, the members thought it most fitting to provide financial support to a student interested in pursuing a career in hospitality and they are continuing it this year.
